Mechanical Engineering Universities in Pakistan

Introduction

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that uses the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, synthesis and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest fields in Engineering.

Major portion of mechanical engineering is concerned with the production, usage and transfer of power through heat and kinematic energy. Although the origins of this field are old, it has grown to continually evolve into an array of technologically advanced sub-disciplines. To incorporate these advancements, mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in such fields as composites, mechatronics and nanotechnology.

The field of mechanical engineering can be thought of as a collection of numerous mechanical engineering science disciplines. Several of these sub-disciplines are typically taught at the undergraduate level with a brief explanation and a general overview. Some of these sub-disciplines are unique to mechanical engineering, while others can be a combination of mechanical engineering and one or more other disciplines.

Mechanical Engineering Universities in Pakistan

Below is a list of major universities recognized by PEC for Mechanical Engineering,

  • National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad
  • Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi
  • NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi
  • UET
  • PIEAS, Islamabad
  • International Islamic University, Islamabad
  • COMSATS Institute
  • Air University, Islamabad

Job Scope for Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineers are in demand at a variety of different fields. Most common is the production line which includes companies as P&G, Unilever, PEPSICO, ENGRO, Dawlance, Pel etc. Second major field is the Power Sector which includes jobs in WAPDA, CHASHNUPP, PAEC etc. Third major field is the Petroleum Industry which includes multinational companies such as Schlumberger, Shell, MOL, Halliburton, PETRONAS etc.

Mechanical Engineering is a universal field and thus has avenues for students in almost every technical field. A common misconception among students lies that mechanical engineering is becoming trivial day by day. This notion is utterly false. Mechanical engineering serves a purpose that cannot be replaced by any other field of engineering. Although every process is now heading towards automation, the execution of the automated parts requires extensive Machine analysis. The manufacturing processes in use in major industries are all supervised by mechanical engineers that are also responsible for the maintenance of equipment present on site.

Main Subjects of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering has a variety of sub-disciplines and hence comprises of a number of different subjects. Major subjects include;

  • Fluid Mechanics – Study of properties of fluid flow
  • Thermodynamics – Study of interrelation of heat and work
  • Metallurgy – Deals with physical and chemical behavior of elements
  • Aerodynamics – Study of properties of air flow
  • Manufacturing – Science of manufacturing techniques
  • Statics – Deals with force transfer through stationary systems
  • Dynamics – Deals with force and motion transfer
  • Solid Mechanics – Deals with strength, stiffness and rigidity of materials
  • Instrumentation – Study of design principles of tools
  • Heat and Mass transfer – Study of rate of heat and mass transfer
  • Design of Machinery – Complex mechanism designs
  • Hydraulics – Studies use of fluids for heavy duty jobs
  • Mechatronics – Incorporates electrical and mechanical systems
  • Control Engineering – Design of control systems capable regulating processes

Let's Discuss

    WELL INFO

  • S-Zaeem Kazmi

Sir I want to that, is COSMATS Mechanical Engineering (bachelors) degree recognized in USA and Australia???
And is COSMATS mechanical engineering considered in top 10 throughout Pakistan???

    • Nauman

COMSATS degree defiantly recognized in other countries if HEC
recognized it. Kindly visit HEC website and also PEC website too. But i
recommend NED, UET or NUST for Mechanical because Main Campus of COMSATS Islamabad not offering Mechanical yet.

      • S-Zaeem Kazmi

What about COSMATS bs in computer science degree???

        • Nauman

COMSATS BS Computer Science is really good. You should think about it.

          • S-Zaeem Kazmi

For which branch should I apply for….. I mean which branch has great faculty, facilities and hostel…. and where I have most chances???
I know these are a lot of questions but I am confused.. plz

    • Guest

I am living in this hostel near by comsats Islamabad campus
      http://mycomsats.com/buy-sell/

if you still have any question let me know.

  • S-Zaeem Kazmi

Will the fees of COMSATS will be payed separately, I mean for the submission of form for Islamabad and Lahore campuses….
And Inshallah I will apply for FAST also

    • Nauman

yes you have to pay separately for each campus. Apply in as many universities as you can and be ready for NTS for COMSATS.

  • sana

is mechanical engineering suitable for girls??

    • http://mycomsats.com/ Nauman

My personal opinion is you should choose some other field. Engineering is not girls type of thing. I am not saying you cant do it. You can even you can beat boys in CGPA but I am talking about end stroy. Companies do not prefer girls for hard and technical work.

    • Ali

      yes

  • Ali

how much marks is needed for applying ??? can any one tell me plzz i need help

    • http://mycomsats.com/ Nauman

Minimum 60%. you should check university requirements before apply

      • Ali

if the marks is below then 60% then what the procedure is ??
